Gianfranco Chicco graduated in Electrotechnics Engineering (honors) in 1987 at Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), Italy, and obtained the Ph.D. in Electrotechnics Engineering in Italy in 1992. He received the “Giancarlo Vallauri” Award in 1988 as the best graduated in Electrotechnical Engineering at POLITO in the Academic year 1986/87. In 2017 he received the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” from the University Politehnica of Bucharest (Romania). In 2018 he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, from the Technical University “Gheoghe Asachi” of Iasi (Romania). He is the National Secretary of GUSEE (an Italian Association including all the professors, researchers, doctoral students and research assistants operating in the Power and Energy Systems sector).
His research interests include Power System Analysis, Distribution System Analysis and Optimization, Electrical Load Management, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Impact of MultiEnergy Systems, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence Applications to Power and Energy Systems, Renewable Energy Sources and Distributed Generation, and Power Quality.
